The Role

The Apheresis Technician Lead's primary responsibilities support day-to-day operations of collection center compliance in providing our customers in the biomedical community with the highest quality products to fuel research and improvements in medicine.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide safe, effective Apheresis treatments, ensuring all treatments are performed according to established procedures, guidelines, and contracts in compliance with all pertinent regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate excellence in customer/donor service.
  • Receive, log, and trace specimens while following HIPPA regulations for donor/sample security.
  • Ensure collection and quality compliance for blood, cells, tissue and apheresis donations.
  • Follow, amend, and recommend updates to regulatory documents to continually increase product and workflow quality.
  • Perform cell counts and analysis on specimens.
  • Function as the Site Supervisor in their absence.
  • Understand and manage the inventory management system and be able to order supplies and maintain par levels.
  • Assist in technician training and proficiency training.
  • Manage externs while onsite.
  • Lead daily site huddles and communicate daily goals.
  • Assist in bone marrow collections and cell count analysis.
  • Ensure equipment is current and all collection center logs are maintained daily.Support regular routine maintenance and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Provide support for the Injury & Illness Prevention Program as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Flexible work schedule, including weekends, will be needed based on project requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Phlebotomy certification (License in California) required.
  • Experience with Apheresis setup, equipment procedures, and collection processes.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions and ability to understand, follow and successfully perform duties, including whole blood collection and apheresis procedures, in accordance with administrative and medical policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Education sufficient to perform all tasks and to read, understand and follow Standard Operating Policies and Procedures and regulatory materials.
  • Ability to train on and comply with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • One (1) year experience performing apheresis collection or similar responsibilities/duties in a relevant medical setting.
  • Three (3) years of phlebotomy experience.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in hands on venipuncture.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with multiple departments including Clients Services, Quality, and Sales.
  • Ability to follow protocols to maintain quality systems.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to travel to other sites as needed.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable form of transportation.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • High school diploma
  • Less than 5% travel required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with blood banking techniques
  • Knowledge of Office 365
  • Experience with EHR systems
  • One (1) year experience in a clinical blood or apheresis collection facility
